Celia is a multi-award winning entrepreneur who founded Hey Girls CIC with the aim of eliminating period poverty in the UK. The social enterprise launched in 2018 with a buy-one-give-one business model, and has since donated 6.2 million period products to people in need.
In her inspiring talks, Celia shares insights from her journey on topics such as social enterprises, how businesses can drive change, having a values-led vision, innovation in product design, building communities and the importance of environmental standards.
As an inspiring public speaker, Celia has galvanised huge support for Hey Girls and its mission to eliminate period poverty in the UK and become the authoritative voice on period poverty in the UK. In the process, she has taken an idea and built it into a credible alternative to major multinational corporations in the sanitary products market.
Celia has worked in the social enterprise sector for over 15 years. Her previous roles in include CEO of the School for Social Entrepreneurs Australia, Chief Executive of Journeys for Change, Chief Executive of the Suffolk Development Agency, Founder of the Eastern Enterprise Hub and Deputy Chief Executive of Social Enterprise UK.
Giving back is critical for Celia. She supports various mentorship programmes to empower the next generation of social entrepreneurs and is on the board of Social Investment Scotland and Social Enterprise Academy.
Hey Girls creates job opportunities in the UK – its products are packed by people furthest from the job market, it offers paid internships to women of colour, and offers flexible hours for mums returning to work. Its education programs are multi gender and LGBTQ+ inclusive, and it works closely with partners to support marginalised women, refugee communities and low-income families to ensure that everyone has access to high-quality products and menstrual health education.
